Eero Saarinen was born in Helsinki. His father was the well-known architect Eliel Saarinen. When he was 13 years old, his parents emigrated to the United States.


Saarinen initially studied sculpture at the Academy of the Grand Chaumiére in Paris and later architecture at Yale University. He received a scholarship to travel again to Europe, where he stayed two years. Upon his return he was a professor of architecture at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. In 1937 he began designing furniture in collaboration with a partner, which was awarded prizes by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Later he also designed furniture for the company Knoll, which became classics.


As an architect, Saarinen worked in his father's studio until his death. Saarinen became famous for his designs of curved lines, especially on the roofs of their buildings, with which he managed to print a great lightness. It is frequently associated with what has come to be called international architecture. One of its most representative buildings and popularly known is the terminal of the TWA at the Kennedy airport in New York.
